Wheelchairs Can Make a Difference in Pain Levels

Based on my own ancedotal experience I can let you know that if you do not use the proper wheelchair you may be experencing more pain then need be. Improperly fitting wheelchairs can be dangerous and can even cause life threatening problems like pressure sores. That is a big reason why they are a prescribed item. They need to be fitted just like a glove.

When buying a wheelchair or electric wheelchair you should be measured by a medical professional. they should take several tape measurements and this alone can take over an hour if they are doing it properly. These measurements can then be used to make sure that the wheelchair you get is the proper one for you. Not all wheelchairs come in all sizes, so this may limit you.

Children also need to be refitted very often. If not done so the child is at risk for various accidents, pressure sores, and even falling over in the chair. Do not just put your child in a small adults wheelchair this is not very safe or productive for the child.

You may have to travel to a larger area to get a proper fitting chair. Not always in small rural areas do they exist, it is well worth the trip to do this. As you may know wheelchairs are like an investment they are very costly, some even cost more then a car.
